Abstract

In a significant development, Pope Francis has approved the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality, opting to implement its conclusions directly rather than issuing a traditional Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation. This article delves into the Final Document from a Canon Law perspective, highlighting its implications for synodality. It also emphasizes the necessity of strengthening, modifying, and introducing new canonical provisions pertaining to lay ministries, participatory bodies, decentralization, and consultation. Furthermore, it examines the establishment of mechanisms aimed at fostering a culture of accountability, transparency and evaluation, the missionary role of the Roman Curia, revisiting the seminary formation, and the involvement of women in the ecclesial life.
