Abstract

This article examines the personal scope of the excommunications declared after the episcopal consecrations of 1 July 2026 within the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X. It distinguishes general ecclesial qualification from individual penal liability, analyses the legal nature and effects of the Explanatory Note, and assesses the position of clerics, Third Order members and lay faithful, with particular attention to sacramental faculties and supplied jurisdiction under c. 144.
