Abstract

Since the pontificate of Pope Francis, the Catholic world (and not only) has been wondering what if any, influences from the universal Church have had and can have on the Church's canonical discipline. This short article aims to shed some light on the impulses from the vastness of the universal Church which makes it clear that the Catholic Church, in its legislation and application of law, has for centuries been oriented to the needs of the local Churches, and that there are untapped treasures to be unearthed here for the present and the future, which might be suitable for defusing some of today's conflicts.
